According to Jean Baudrillard, simulation is the substitution of signs of the real for the real. Simulacra convey signs that no longer represent or refer to an external factor. They stand for nothing but themselves, and refer only to other signs.Simulacra and Simulation is very wordy and obtuse, but holds some really interesting ideas about culture and society as a whole. A quick way to explain the topic of the book is by looking at The Matrix (which actually featured this book in one scene and used many of Baudrillards ideas as a basis for its story).Simulacra and Simulation See main article: Simulacra and Simulation. Jean Baudrillard Introducing the idea of the simulation, Baudrillard says that we have come to a placewhere the false precedes the real. In addition to discovering that the simulation no longer matches the real, Baudrillard says it has gone farther, reducing everything down to miniature and making it hyperreal, something that exists in and of itself, with little to connect it to the original.
